- The Boghound is based very much on the Terror Dogs from the first Ghostbusters movie.

- Several references to superstition are made, including good luck charms, rabbit's foot and four leaf clovers.
- Egon makes reference to Johnny Weissmuller and his famous role of Tarzan.
