- Writer, Michael Edens, wanted to call the episode "It's a Jungle Out There" but his brother and fellow writer wanted something more literary. "It's a Jungle Out There" did eventually become the title of an episode and Peter says "It's a jungle out there" during this episode.
- The title of this episode is a reference to the novel, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
- "Lorne's Greenhouse" is a reference to actor, Lorne Greene.
- Egon used to use plants in his experiments, until they all died.
