Since you're not the original poster, Im not sure why you continue to bicker here since you don't seem to have a dog in this fight (to quote Michael Vick)
But anyway I gotta question....
Are you guaging "Big" parades by press coverage or attendendance? Becuase the most attended American parade IS in NY but its the West Indian Carnaval in Brooklyn which has at least 2 million attendees. In second place is the annual BUD BILLIKEN DAY PARADE held the second Saturday of August in Chicago, IL with well over 150,000 marching units, bands, majorettes and floats in the parade. Of course the largest in the world is the Sao Paulo Gay Parade in Brazil.....I have seen none of these on TV.
As far as coverage by major media at the moment you are correct, but trending towards wrong. The big 3 networks...o.k. lets include Fox...Of the big 4, only 2 cover the parade live, ABC and NBC. Both have been cutting the coverage shorter annually due to poor ratings....meanwhile outside cable networks like G4, SpikeTV and Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, along with internet outlets like io9, kotaku, popmatters, etc. have given greater focus each year to the major cons. ComicCon, DragonCon, etc.
Hell, Macy's may go bankrupt in the next couple of years.
But you're right. The 501st was invited by Lucas to the rose parade, and they were shown the proper respect. Bob Eubanks called them "Groupies" on national television and said they need to get jobs. No really, check 2:18-2:21...
But regardless of all of that, I'm not in it for the ink. I could give a shit if the national media covers it or not. To me its all about the experience. And I was at DragonCon when we had a parade with 67 Busters and 7 Ectos, outnumbering the 501st by the way.....f*** the coverage, I lived that....and hopefully next year will be bigger.
