- October 5th, 2009, 2:44 pm#170053Ok, first off, I'm sorry for anyone having franchise troubles. Nobody should be ignored, no matter what the context. Even if you have beef, just be honest and face it head on, that's what I believe. That being said, I have to say that this thread cracks me up because the whole uproar is about "franchise overlap" or "naming rights" or whatever, when in reality it really doesn't matter because we're not really ghostbusters and we don't really catch ghosts, and therefore are not legitimate businesses. If you're an honest-to-god charity group, with tax exemptions and everything, then that's a different story, but that's usually not the case.
But I have to point out, if I'm not mistaken, that a certain group here decided to change their name, for personal, yet harmless reasons, and caught nothing but shit for it. The best part, is that the grief didn't come from "name overlap", or a nearby group who we were infringing upon. No, it came from people who really shouldn't care and were just chiming in to be assholes. Honestly, it just saddens me, that's all. Mostly because I used to love this site, because of the wealth of knowledge and information and because of the sense of community...or so I thought. Hell, the very first time I ever posted on this site, I put up pics of my flightsuit and you know what I got instead of compliments? "Ewww, why didn't you get a truspec?!?!" Yea, that's a "hey kid, there's no santa claus" kind of let down. And I'm sorry for straying from the true topic here, but I just couldn't hold my tongue anymore. I've come very close to losing my interest in this hobby because every time I come here, I see, with my own eyes, the fun being sucked right out of an innocent and fun hobby, because of elitism, because of overzealousness, and because some people just take things way too seriously. Luckily I have a great group of friends who still love and enjoy this hobby and I still get a kick out of the reactions we get at conventions. There's no better feeling than stepping into a con and getting dozens and dozens of pictures taken because they think "holy crap, it's the ghostbusters!" I think people often forget this feeling, and the true nature of this hobby. I hope with everything I have that people can just stop being so serious and just remember that we're all a bunch of grown-ass men playing pretend, and that it's just a fun hobby. And it should stay that way..........regardless of your age, sex, race, location, or "group name".......
Ok I'm done......
