We all know that a genuine Seiko voice watch can cost thousands. Even if you can afford one, it would be madness to actually wear it. But there has to be alternatives, right?

Well, one contender I found is the Casio jp-100w. I managed to snag a mint condition one on ebay for £70 plus shipping. Wondering what it looks like? Well here it is:


Apart from the button and pulse sensor being on the side, I'd call it close enough.

But... it could be closer.

First thing I did was to cut a template to fit round the pulse button and sensor.


I then transfered this on to aluminium tape. It took a few goes, a bit of swearing, and ultimately help from the missus to get the shape right.

Meanwhile, I took a 30 year old vintage watch and... coloured in the buttons with a Sharpie! :O


Finally, I peeled the backing of the metal tape and applied it to the watch.


It may not be a perfect match for a Seiko, but it's close enough for me. After all, if anyone is paying attention to your watch when you have a proton pack on your back, there's something wrong with them.
