Has there ever been a version of the RGB theme in all it's 80s glory without the intro sound effects?

There's a almost full-length sound-effects free version of the intro theme played during the end credits of The Halloween Door.

Beyond that though, no clean copy of the theme, either with or without John Smith's vocals has cropped up, only versions with sound effects, either from the broadcast episodes or the pilot when it was released on the Time Life set.
