Let's just get to business.

Drilled the holes for the loom that runs up the tanks in the tray lid:

Image

The holes center points are 1.5" from the edge and they are 13/16"

I used a step bit. If you need one, Harbor Freight; I paid less than $10 for a two pack that also came a bigger one.

Finally attached the third hose to the Parker quick-connect on the left side.

I simply used some of the same tape thus far to hold it in place and then smashed it under the angled plate.

Image

That clamp helped to hold the plate down while I tightened the screws.

Image

Image

Image

Then, I set about getting the vest in order.

First things first, I need extra pads for under the ALICE straps.

I decided to use the extra pads on the shoulder flaps for those.

Drill the rivets out right and those little plastic retaining clips come right off.

Image

Image

Image

Then the pad pulls right off.

Image

Image

Laid everything out to get a feel for it.

Image

Next up, the chest plates.

Same thing; drill out the rivets on the random hardware you don't need.

I should probably point out that I'm using the back as the front.

So, I used the back plastics for the chest plates.

Maybe its just me but, I find it funny that my pads and straps are backwards.

Back to the plastic:

Image

Image
YAY! I DID IT RIGHT!

Image
LEFT-Untouched RIGHT- Hardware stripped.

Image
Used a seam ripper to pull back and then cut off this collar piece.

Image
There was a couple raised holes from that stitch. Some 100 grit sandpaper took care of them.

I took a couple measurements off the edges of the velcro holes and then mirrored them onto the other half.

Image

Secured it in place and took a dremel with one of the nicer cutting discs to it.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
I picked up a strip of upholstery fabric that has the look of leather but sews like cloth.

This is the same fabric I'm using to wrap the collar, more on that later.

The pads had some little extra flaps on the chest. I think they may be used to protect the ribs?

Whatever they are they had to go.

I was thinking they may make a nice "minimalist" head rest for the main tank. :D

A hobby knife makes a great seam ripper for the more delicate jobs:

Image

Image

Getting a feel for where the strap pads need to be:

Image

I also cut away all that extra crap around the shoulders.

I felt like it would be too bulky with the shoulder braces and the extra pads on top.

Image

Now, the collar;

I folded the fabric for a clean edge.

Pined it along the outer edge of the piping that runs in-between the pads collar and shoulder.

Then a simple running stitch.

Image

Image
You can see the black edge that runs along the fabric.

That's the piping I was talking about eailer; It's a nice guide for where most of the sewing occurs.

I then pined the fabric in place on the underside.

Since you don't see it I wasn't concerned with folding here for a clean edge.

Image

I also pinned the strap pad in place on the top half.

Image

As you can see, the extra pads closest edge to where it will fold sits nicely along collar.

This was a tip from one of my seamstress friends and made sewing it all together much easier.

I stated at the front on the underside and did a whip stitch though the fabric and around the pined edge of the extra pad.

When I went back though the extra pad and collar I kept to the piping and it pretty much went together itself.

Image

Image

Image

Image
One down.

Start of the second..
Image

Image
..and done with most of the major work.

Image

Apparently Slime Blower vests also make for great cat beds.

Image

Image
I want to get these finished.

Right now I'm looking for some decent Side-Release Clips.

1" clips look right to me but I'd like to find some that are as close as possible.

I'm also debating on how to adhere the fabric to the plates. Super 77? Contact Cement?

Lastly, are the metal bits that hold the webbing for the clips; wide flange rivets?

Thanks for looking!

WARNING: Contact Cement is highly flammable and should be applied in a well ventilated area.

It would seem contact cement is the correct choice for applying the fabric to the chest plates.

I tried some Super 77 and as expected it peel back pretty easily.

Here are some pics of the whole testing process. Mainly, I wanted to see if the random holes in the plastic needed filling.

Image

Image
When the cement is applied to the fabric it tries to roll in on itself. This is normal and shouldn't be a problem.

These next couple pics show that when pulled tight over the random holes no filling is needed.
Front:
Image

Back:
Image

It would seem there is a outer layer that rubs off easily so be careful when applying the fabric.

You may have better luck with your build; on the choice of material used I mean.

I would test whatever you have your eye on in the store.

Image
(Top Left, you can see where the texture rubbed off a bit)

Content with how the testing process went I moved forward with the detail pieces of the plastics.

There is a raised section on either side of where the velcro holds the plates in place.

To achieve this look I cut a strip off a For Sale sign and then cut it into small sections..

Image

..test fit..

Image

..numbered the pieces to the spots they go on..

Image

..and after a little bit of trimming/cleanup they were cemented into place.

Image

Image

Now, for the Side-Release Clips portion; I just went up to Walmart and picked up some 1" clips and 1" nylon webbing:

Image

Image
Weird part was they didn't have the middle guide tooth... oh well.

With the detail pieces cemented in place I went about cutting the spaces out for the clips to rest in.

Image

Image

Everything laid out:

Image

Drilled holes for rivets and test fit them.

Image

I decided to cement the fabric on as one big piece and then trim it down where needed.

Even though I kinda screwed up on one little part(you'll see), This made applying the fabric fairly simple.

Image

Image

See how the fabric started laying flat in the second pic? That's a good sign that its ready to applied.

Here's where I screwed up:

Image

Put it too far to one side and that one corner didn't have enough to wrap around it.. I was not happy with this.

So, we make a little patch to wrap that corner later on.

Image

Other than that screw up, they really started to take shape here.

Image

Used a hobby knife to trim the fabric and cut the slots.

Image

That old paint brush came in handy when pushing the fabric down in the slots on the plastics.

Image

Then, I applied some cement to the back side of the plates.

You want to start on the plastic and then spread it too the fabric.

This helps with efficiency on this part.

Image

Wrap it around fairly tight and a bit of trimming here or there and you're ready for rivet work.

Image

Again, using the hobby knife to cut the holes for the rivets to pass through...

Image

Cut a X and you should be good.

Image

Image

To mark the spots on the nylon I used a dull pencil and keep test fitting as I went along.

Image

Pop*, pop* and the plates are ready.

Image

Moar soon..

I went to Jo-Ann's Fabric.

It was over in the upholstery faux leather fabric section on a really long roll.

I believe the one I chose was "Alligator"

I am simply stunned by the incredible nature of this project. This has to be one of the best slime blower builds I have ever seen.

I'm going to continue painting tonight and hopefully get some tanks mounted tomorrow.
Catch you on the flip side!

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of these two parts?

Hey Tommy,

First off, I would recommend not quoting that many pictures. It makes threads a beast to load.

Second, gEkX hasn't been active on these boards for quite some time. I doubt he'll be replying to your questions, so I figure I'll take a stab at answering for him.

Which brings me to my third point. The "gold" boxes and the other two aluminum mounting plates are all aluminum parts supplied by Multimedia Mayhem, or "Irricanian" on these boards. Since Irricanian was allegedly the one who came up with the measurements used on said parts, I would recommend you ask him directly. He hasn't made his blueprints or measurements public, so it wouldn't be right for anyone else to, without his permission.

Hope that helped!

I built a nano wand from the GB game. And I am looking for someone who could build the electronics for it. I wish the sounds of it turning on, and the lights flash. And a working gauge . Anyone out there can help? I can add pictures.

I've really been enjoying this thread. I've probably looked at it a thousand times already for my own build. Can anyone provided more information about the wide black strap in the vest photos? Is it just wrapping around the vest or attaching the the frame somehow?
