Hey all!

I may be wrong, but it seems as though Hyperdyne is the only company making electronics for the PKE. Combine their price with the cost of making or 3D printing the shell and you're at about the going rate of the ridiculously over-priced, in-short-supply, Matty Collector PKE.

I feel like fans would appreciate having an alternate choice. Am I wrong?

To that end, I'm going to take the summer to research the functionality seen on-screen, look at other variations seen in comics and other places along with the various technologies I might use to make the kit.

I've got a few ideas about how I'd like it to work but I'd love to hear from the group.

Is there an alternative already that I don't know about? Is it worth my time to try this? What kinds of functionality/options/features would you like to see in the kit? Anything else I should keep in mind?

I think I have a basic idea for functionality. Since the idea is to use the movie casing and detailing, I thought it might be neat to have an actual LCD screen in it to allow for two modes:

Mode 1) Movie mode: the screen will illuminate with a light green background with the brighter dot moving through the display
Made 2) Video Game mode: vertical bars that change colour and flash like the video game

Thoughts?

About 2 years ago I purchased a resin cast PKE Meter from a guy called BuzzsRoomStuff, or something very close off evilbay, he has his own FB Page and the work was comparable to Colins, aka MultimediaMayhams or Nicks, aka Nikatron, anywho, It cost me around £40 and I was delighted with the quality but having spent hours, days, weeks, months searching for electronics I too only found Hyperdyne Labs as a source. Does this make him a specialist, I guess yes it does, but is it overpriced because he's the only one supplying these? Well maybe, but if there's a market and you're the only one filling it, you can ask what you want. I have no grief whatsoever but honestly, the price put me off, every now and then I go back to that page, longing for the price to have dropped, dreaming that my static prop will one day burst into life with lights and sound, a bit over dramatic I guess, but hey, why not......... the customs charges would be as much as the total cost including shipping so my quest halted and I put it back in it's nicely packaged box and left it.
I did recently spray it but without lights, well.......it's meh, but nobody has rivalled Hyperdyne, I missed the boat on all the matty releases because I put my money into other things and expected them to be on sale forever etc,

I frankly don't have the time, patience to play with Arduino but see lots of great protoboards being created.

I have read a lot of good stuff about you CPU64 over the years, both here and the RPF, please, if you can manage this, I would be on board for a set or two, depending on cost, good luck.......Craig, (Sheffield Ghostbusters)
