How the Trap Pedal hangs from the Trap

Due to popular demand, this thread now exists. Other people may contribute as well as I may be totally wrong, but on the right track :whatever:

First way: Off the hose

As seen in the Sedgewick scene

What it looks like in real life:

Or you can put it on backwards:

Second way: Off the ribbon cable

As seen in later Sedgewick segment (screenshot courtesy of Ryusui):

Again, backwards:

Third Way: Velcro device

This technique is not movie kosher/canon. I use the velcro wire wrapper to create a loop to hold the pedal and a loop to strap it to my belt:
Image

Fourth Way: Tape Measure Clip

This technique is also not movie kosher/canon. My friend has attached a clip similar to one you can find on the back of a tape measure to his trap pedal. The pedal can then be hooked to the belt or as shown in the picture, attached to the holster's strap (images courtesy of Indianapolis_Ghostbusters).

The clip:

How it hangs on the trap:

Last year I ripped off my Ribbon cable by the ribbon cable method, didn't think to try the hose method. Might examine that sometime later!

In the movies, the longevity of the props was not an issue. Therefore, the pedal was haphazardly hung from the ribbon cable or hose.

I recommend using my method (see #3 above) or Jeff's friend's method:

Awesome, thanks for this, borzou! Those pics you added are a great help, too.
As for the ribbon cable method, I think if you secure the pedal to the trap with the leather strap on the trap holster, you're less likely to put strain on the cable itself. Or just leave the cable off and use the strap only.

Can we possibly get a mod to sticky this thread?

Thanks Borzou, I meant to do this myself, but did not have time at hand. Thanks for saving me the time.
Ryusui, you beat me to it. I think that strapping the trap and pedal together would be the best way to carry them, if you think it in a professional way, as by unstrapping the trap, you will also unstrap the pedal, and it is quickly in use. In other carrying versions, you'd need to take them out of your belt separately, which is not too good idea, if you need them in a hurry.
I too think that this should be stickied..

Two of our members with traps use two of the different methods.

Here's the best I have of our team captains, vector plate out using gray cable around handle:

This is the best I have of Neal's set up (on the right), he put's his on the belt next to the trap the way borzou mentioned:

I personally am not sold on the tape measure clip idea, but I think if you're gonna use it, hanging it by the strap is an awesome idea. That would really help save room on your belt.

Another thing I have seen done, is put a key ring on the ribbon cable and attatch it to a key fob on the belt.

Great ideas guys, might have to try the Tape Measure clip idea for my pedal when it's done.

Im actually on the verge of completing my trap pedal and I was thinking alone the same lines of a seperate strap to hold the pedal away from the trap. Because keeping the pedal hanging from the ribbon cable or the pneumatic hosing is not only dangerous for the prop, it covers up the beauty of your ghost trap..

I guess I might be a real bum and just order another Ghost trap holster and install a V hook on the pedal and holster it the same as the trap, now THAT would be secure..

I just mounted a tape measure to the bottom of my trap pedal and it works pretty well. I may come up with a better solution later.

THIS. I've found this a problem too, the trap is the second most recognizable piece of Ghostbusting equipment, with the pedal covering it, kinda defeats the object of it being there. As of now, I've been using the ribbon cable technique, but its already come loose once, i'm not totally sold on the idea. Similar to what someone suggested with the keyring, I have an inaccurate keyfob, one of those with the spring slider thing to quickly get keys on and off. I've been putting my pedal on that but it doesn't half clatter against my leg when walking. I kinda like the idea of the clip, especially on the strap of the holster, its in the area it should be but not obscuring the trap.

I just want to say I have an update to this...

After much debate by myself i finally after wearing my gear for the 4th time in a row noticed some wear and most importantly TEAR on my ribbon cable that i was using to hold my pedal on the belt so I am really going to need an alternate route.. and this thread resparked my intrest. i will post pics when completed

I have yet to build my trap / pedal so this is just conjecture...

However, I really like the look of hanging the pedal by the hoses or ribbon cable over the trap itself. Would it be possible to run a heavy gauge wire behind the ribbon cable and / or through the red / yellow hoses and secure it under the pedal? Maybe run the wire through the two project boxes on either side? That way, the wire itself would take the weight and the ribbon cable / red & yellow wires would (mostly) hide the wire.

Thoughts?

Ted.

I have yet to build mine as well but your idea I think is pretty sound. Though as a few people have mentioned the trap is the second most recognizable part of the equipment and the idea of covering it up with the pedal does seem like it would cover up anybodies hard work in building their trap.

I've been keeping my eye's one this thread so that I could borrow an idea I like to place the pedal else where on my uniform so it is visable as isthe trap.

Ever since the game came out with the "wireless" traps the pedal just seems like extra crap to carry. I don't even bother.

I was actually thinking about that. I have a trap but no pedal yet. I was either going to do my version of a slightly updated pedal (little smaller and different electronics) or put a small cell-phone type antenna in place of the foster connector and put a dummy button on my thrower for a remote wireless trap

I learned that lesson the first year I wore mine, Then I bolted the ribbon cable to the project box. Longevity for the win.

I'm going to come up with a bit of a different style of trap holster where everything is a bit more secure. Will post pics when I get working on it.

For one thing, I bump into things more than I used to... and being what I used to do, I like to have things locked down so they don't flop, fall or hurt someone.

You could always utilize one of the belt clips.

Still leaves enough room for the gizmo holster:

Like Vinny said I leave the pedal at home. After the game came out I have decided my trap is Wireless and that my "Open" control has been integrated into my wand. Then someone calls me a liar and they are right... :P

Hanging the pedal from Mattys trap scares me in fear of tearing up the stickers and I always have to much stuff on my belt to do the tape measure idea.
