You could either mount the Crank Knob on a bolt & washer assembly, which is probably the simplest method to make it rotate. The next step up would be to mount it to a potentiometer with an appropriately-sized shaft, which'll allow it to rotate, but less freely than the first method. Potentiometer can be purchased from any decent electronics retailer, though be careful to note the dimensions of the shaft before purchasing.
