ECTO P71 wrote:After having a few days off work and applying all my ECTO P71 decals I was driving to work and there was a protest blocking the street. There was a first responder training going on that was being protested. As I pulled up to a light an officer directing traffic pointed at my car and pointed to the curb. I thought I was being pulled over. I went to the curb and rolled my window down and asked what was going on, the officer responded "Dude! That's awesome! Are you going to the training?" "No, I used to be but I am not anymore." "Right on, mind if I take a picture with your car?" He got a selfie with me and the car and then I said to him "How am I going to get back into traffic?" Officer responded "No worries man, I'll walk you to the front" So he walked me to the front of traffic calling out "Ghostbusters coming through!" And I was put to the front and I honked as all the officers at the front of the training waved at me. That was day 1. Many pictures and thumbs up to people singing the song to me at lights.

I have driven custom low riders, lifted trucks, race cars, muscle cars, mini-trucks, and rally cars on the street. I have NEVER. EVER. gotten as much attention in any of those as I have in my beat up daily driver with a decal kit on it...
Awesome story, brother... I am happy for your first drive out encounter... Big plus when the local cops take a liking to you and now know you're their friendly neighborhood GHOSTBUSTER!
Total props to you, and KEEP ON BUSTIN'!

I've only taken the EctoMini out a few times to car shows (and I don't drive in full Ecto mode, all the stuff that goes on the roofrack, ironically, stays in the boot), but even stopping at the corner shop on the way I can have some GB fan kid (and his dad) admiring it. Stopping at a petrol station on the way home from one show the guy behind the counter asked if I'd been to a car show... No, I said, I'm a professional paranormal investigator. I need to practice doing that with a straight face though...

Also, even though the EctoMini really doesn't like venturing onto the motorways, the people taking pictures and filming as they overtake, and the cars full of kids pointing and smiling - I don't think that will ever get old.

I had my wife's Terrain set up like this for the week of Halloween. I ran in a few parades, escorted family for trick or treat and even made appearances at a couple local businesses. I managed a 2nd place in one of the parades, beaten by a local church group's rolling pumpkin patch trailer with lots of lights powered by a generator.

I can relate to almost all of the posts in this thread. Rolling down the highway, people pacing me, cutting me off and slowing down, forcing me to pass them so they can take a pic, giving me thumbs up or honking at me or both, asking me if I'm real, how much did it cost to do that to my car, does it all work, etc.

Mostly people just want pics of the car. Always saying "can I take your pic? no one will believe this!". I always say of course, you can't do this to a vehicle and NOT expect people to want to take pics of it. Driving in it, just about everywhere you look everyone is staring your way. Laughing, smiling, taking pics, waving, etc. It's quite an experience to say the least. Once I had taken everything back off for my wife to have her car back, no one notices it anymore. It's almost like it's invisible now compared to the reaction I was getting before.

At first, my wife played along, but seemed to think I was being an over-the-top geek for doing this to our car, but the more she rode in it, the more she got into it. To the point that she wanted and wore a GB costume to work and while riding around with me in it. She was definitely enjoying the reaction the car got from everyone around us.

I am collecting more pieces to make it even better for next year, adding more lights and better sound at least, plus I am aiming to have a "working" PKE if not a full pack by then as well. I wasn't sure if my efforts were going to pan out, but it worked out better than I expected and the car definitely got a huge reaction! Absolutely worth it!

That's what I used. I accidentally got non-reflective before I even thought about it, but it turned out better that way because many, many people were taking pics of my car at night with their flash and reflective would have washed out the images and all the details. I had gotten a roll of dry-erase magnetic sheeting from amazon that was 20mil thick, 2 feet wide and 10 feet long, one side was magnetic, the other side was gloss white dry-erase board material. I applied all the decals to this sheet, then cut them out to make the car graphics, including the caution stripes. I made 3 ten foot long by 2 inch wide pieces of caution stripe, then trimmed it into pieces that fit the contours of the car. It came right off without leaving any marks, but I had also waxed the car before putting on the magnetic graphics which probably helped.

Thanks! That's a great idea. I'll keep that method in mind. Especially since like you I'll be doing just a temporary removable build.
